Inkjet Printer Buying Guide
Choose an inkjet printer or a laser printer?
In general, if 100% of your print is in black text only, then black and white laser printer should be your best choice. Laser printer produce more defined edges and razor-sharp black text on plain paper. Because laser printer use heat to fuse powdered ink into the paper, so the ink dry instantly and it will not diffuse to the surrounding area result in better defined edges and sharper black text on plain paper. On the other hand, Black text print from inkjet printer have less defined edges because the ink inject into the plain paper can't dry instantly and it will diffuse to the surrounding area result in less defined edges. Inkjet printers produce same high quality prints on glossy photo paper as laser printer. Since the ink will not diffuse to the surrounding area on glossy photo paper as ease as the plain paper. If you print both color photo and text documents, then inkjet printer should be your best choice. Forget about color laser printers. They are 10 times more expensive than color inkjet printers and color inkjet printers produce much more high quality color photo printout than color laser printers that cost 10 times more.
Which inkjet printer brand and model is right for me?
Every color inkjet printer on the market today will produce really nice prints. They cost between $30 to $500. In my opinion, a photo inkjet printer cost around $100 is the best buy if you don't need the fast printing speed. The photo print quality between a $100 inkjet printer and a $300 inkjet printer is very subtle and hard to tell the difference, but the higher price inkjet printer support larger format paper and have faster printing speed. The photo print quality of a $100 inkjet printer is better than a $30 inkjet printer and you can notice the difference.
Other considerations: Printer consumable cost
One of the factors that people often overlook when choosing a printer is the cost of the ink cartridges. Genuine ink cartridges cost between $7 to $30 each. Compatible ink cartridges made by third part manufactures cost between $1.5 to $7.
